Jokowi: My Lampung Visit Is Not Just a Friendly Gathering, It's for PSI
The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, has stressed that his visit to Lampung was not solely to maintain ties with the community, but also as a form of concrete support for the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI). He made the statement while attending the PSI Mesuji Regency Regional Leadership Council (DPD) Coordination Meeting on Friday afternoon (26/6).
Speaking before party cadres, Jokowi openly stated two main purposes for his arrival. The first was to preserve his closeness with the people of Lampung, and the second, more specifically, was to give attention to PSI.
“Why did I come to Lampung Province? Why did I come to Mesuji Regency? Firstly, my affection for the people of Lampung has not faded, it remains. And secondly, more importantly, it is also for PSI!” Jokowi asserted.
He explained that Lampung was the first province he visited because the development of PSI’s organisational structure in the region was considered very advanced and nearly complete down to the village level. Jokowi expressed high appreciation to the ranks of PSI Lampung, from the provincial board to the district boards, who had worked hard to complete the party structure. He noted that this achievement surpassed other regions.
“I want to give the highest appreciation, respect, and honour to the General Chair, the Provincial Chair, the District Chairs, and all their ranks who have completed the party structure down to the village level. In other areas, I see it is still at 60 percent, 40 percent, but here it is almost 100 percent,” he added.
Although the organisational structure has been firmly established, Jokowi reminded them that the party machinery should not only be active ahead of political contests. He emphasised the importance of the existing structure working and being present within the community every day.
The former Governor of Jakarta asked PSI administrators to actively build closeness with residents through various social activities and to help solve the problems faced by the community.
“The next step is to make that structure live and work. What does it mean to live and work? It means that you, the administrators, must always be close to the community, not just when the election is approaching, but daily you must be close to the people’s lives,” Jokowi advised.
He assessed that if the party structure can function actively and stay close to the people, PSI will have a strong foundation to face the 2029 General Election.
During his visit to Lampung from 26 to 28 June 2026, Jokowi is scheduled to participate in a series of agendas, including delivering a national address at the PSI Coordination Meeting, meeting with residents and volunteers, visiting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), participating in a cultural parade, and meeting with traditional leaders and heads of Islamic boarding schools.
