Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), joined in singing the viral ‘Mas Bahlil Ganteng’ track performed by young people outside his residence in Solo, Central Java. Golkar Secretary Sarmuji described Jokowi as perceptive, telling reporters on Monday (1 June 2026): ‘This reflects his sensitivity towards the youth world.’ Sarmuji added that Jokowi’s awareness of social media trends is evident, noting it was natural for him to participate in the ‘Mas Bahlil Ganteng’ song. ‘President Jokowi closely follows social media trends. He knows the MBG track is highly popular, and as an internet user, it’s reasonable for him to join in,’ he said. Jokowi shared a video of young people singing ‘Mas Bahlil Ganteng’ on his official Instagram account on Saturday (30 May 2026). The clip shows them mimicking lyrics from the song. The song includes lyrics such as: ‘MBG: Mas Bahlil Ganteng, what fruit is sweetest? Buahhlil, even more handsome, my little ketan bolu, ups, kanda likes dinda’s style, damn she’s getting cuter guys, if you look closely she’s like Zayn Malik, oh my Bahlil is handsome.’ The youths also displayed distinctive styles while enacting each lyric. In the clip, Jokowi’s face appears as he makes a finger heart gesture. Wearing a white hat and batik shirt, he smiled while performing the gesture during his walk. Jokowi noted the song had reached his doorstep. ‘It seems Bahlil’s song has arrived at my home,’ he wrote. Initially, Jokowi was curious about the commotion outside his residence on Gang Kutai in Solo. He later revealed it was young people enthusiastically dancing to ‘Mas Bahlil Ganteng’. ‘At first I wondered what was happening outside my home on Gang Kutai Utara, Solo. Turns out, the youth were energetically dancing to “Mas Bahlil ganteng!”’ he wrote. Jokowi viewed this as a unique way of expressing joy, stressing that such creativity should be appreciated. ‘I witnessed the youth expressing their happiness in a distinctive manner. Their enthusiasm and creativity deserve recognition,’ he wrote. ‘Greetings from Solo,’ he added.
