Jokowi Directs PSI to Support Prabowo-Gibran for Two Terms, AHY Says 2029 Is Still Far Off
Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Central Executive Board Chairman Bestari Barus stated that Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked his party to safeguard President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka for two terms. Democratic Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) said the 2029 General Election is still a long way off.
“Let us all realise that this is still 2026, and 2029 is still quite some time away,” AHY said at the DPR building in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday (22/6/2026).
AHY said the Democratic Party is focusing on domestic affairs. He stated that the Democrats want to maintain people’s purchasing power and create jobs.
“I think we should focus on domestic matters first. Our focus is the economy. We want to ensure growth can be maintained, people’s purchasing power can be preserved, jobs can be created properly, poverty can be reduced, and inequality can be suppressed. That is the Democrats’ focus,” AHY said.
The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development said his ministry is also focused on overseeing these issues. He admitted he has pushed for various programmes within his ministry to have a positive impact.
Earlier, Bestari said Jokowi asked his party and PSI sympathisers to safeguard the Prabowo-Gibran administration. According to him, Jokowi also asked PSI to support Prabowo-Gibran for two terms.
“To us, he conveyed that we are asked to safeguard Mr Prabowo and Mr Gibran, even for two terms. So there is no slander about there being two suns. How can there be two suns? It is nonsense,” Bestari told reporters on Friday (18/6).
Bestari revealed the message after meeting with the father of PSI Chairman Kaesang Pangarep in Solo on Thursday (18/6) morning. Bestari said Jokowi reminded them to maintain internal harmony and support the ongoing Prabowo-Gibran administration.
