Jokowi Diploma Case: Roy Suryo and Tifa Reject Restorative Justice Offer from Prosecutors

Roy Suryo and Tifauziah Tyassuma, also known as Doctor Tifa, reportedly received an offer of restorative justice from public prosecutors during the second stage of the case transfer at the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office. Their legal counsel, Gafur Sangadji, stated that during the handover process, the prosecutors asked the defendants, whom he referred to as ‘fighters’, whether they would consider restorative justice or making peace with the complainant, Mr Joko Widodo. The lawyer also revealed that Roy and Tifa were offered a plea bargain, requiring an admission of guilt from both defendants. However, Roy and Tifa firmly rejected both offers in the presence of the public prosecutor, declaring they would not reconcile with Joko Widodo. They maintain they have never committed a crime, arguing that their actions were limited to examining a diploma whose authenticity has been doubted and has remained a public controversy for years without legal certainty or a court ruling confirming its validity. The Metro Jaya Regional Police arrested Roy Suryo and Tifa, who are suspects in the diploma allegation case, on Friday the previous week. The police explained the arrests were part of the process of transferring the suspects and evidence to the High Prosecutor’s Office after the case file was declared complete. Following their arrest, both were taken to the Kramat Jati Police Hospital for a medical examination, where doctors recommended inpatient care to ensure their health remained stable. The police then carried out the second stage of the transfer, handing over the suspects and evidence to the South Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office.
