Roy Suryo and Tifauziah Tyassuma, alias Dr Tifa, will stand trial over accusations that the diploma of Indonesia’s 7th President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), was falsified, at the East Jakarta District Court (PN Jaktim). This was revealed by the Head of the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari Jaksel), Marcelo Bellah, after the second stage of the case transfer was completed on Monday (22/6). “And based on the decision of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia, the East Jakarta Court has been appointed to examine and decide this case,” he said. Nevertheless, Marcelo did not disclose the reason why the trial against Roy and Tifa is being held at the East Jakarta District Court. Marcelo only stated that the trial process will be held as soon as possible, as the case falls under the qualification of an important case. “Considering that this case has taken up public time and attention, it is categorised as an important case, so it is necessary for the case to obtain legal certainty as soon as possible,” he said. “For that reason, the case file and indictment will be transferred to the authorised District Court as soon as possible,” he continued. Previously, the South Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office decided not to detain Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa in the case of the alleged fake diploma of Jokowi. Both were only required to report once a week. The prosecutors decided not to detain them based on a suspension request submitted by the legal counsel and families of Roy and Tifa. Marcelo stated that in the request, the family members acting as guarantors were ready to accept the risk if Roy and Tifa did not appear at the trial. “As well as a statement letter from the suspects that they will always be cooperative in fulfilling all applicable obligations and rules and will not repeat the said actions to maintain a conducive situation, therefore, in accordance with the applicable mechanisms and provisions, the suspects are not detained,” he said.
