Jokowi’s Legal Team Announces He Will Present Original Diploma at Trial

Jokowi’s legal team has confirmed that the 7th President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), will attend the trial of Roy Suryo and associates and present his original diploma at the court proceedings.

This was stated by the legal team after meeting Jokowi at his residence in Sumber Ward, Banjarsari Subdistrict, Solo City, on Saturday (25/4).

The legal team discussed the defamation case arising from the controversy over accusations of a fake diploma, which Jokowi reported to Polda Metro Jaya.

Jokowi’s lawyer, Yakup Hasibuan, said that during the meeting, they also provided the latest updates on the case.

“This morning, we paid a courtesy visit to Mr Jokowi, and at the same time, we gave a brief update on the developments of the case at Polda Metro Jaya. Since we are confident that this matter will soon go to trial, we also discussed the follow-up actions, how long the process will take, and so on,” said Yakup, as quoted by detikJateng on Saturday (25/4).

Polda Metro Jaya has forwarded the case files of Roy Suryo and associates to the prosecutor’s office in this matter.

Jokowi’s legal team claims they do not yet know when the trial will be held. They leave it to the Prosecutor’s Office and the Court regarding the trial schedule. However, he is confident that the trial will not be long in coming, as the case files are complete.

“We are still waiting for the schedule; that is certainly the authority of the Prosecutor’s Office. Once it enters the Court, there will be technical determinations for the trial schedule and so forth. Our belief is that, since the files are complete, it should not be long; hopefully within one to two months,” he explained.

Yakup confirmed that Jokowi will attend that trial. He has confirmed this directly with Jokowi. In fact, Jokowi will show his original diploma at that trial.

“We reconfirmed with Mr Jokowi: ‘Sir, regarding your attendance at the trial, what will it be like?’ He emphasised that he will attend the trial and show his diploma,” he stated.

“So, these are things that various parties might still question, such as Mr Jokowi not attending the trial, his diploma not being shown—that is not true. We emphasise that Mr Jokowi will attend the trial and show his diploma. Everything from primary school, even though the one in question is from UGM, but the previous ones Mr Jokowi is also willing to show,” he added.

Regarding when Jokowi will show his original diploma at the trial, Yakup leaves it to the Panel of Judges regarding the procedural aspects of the trial.

“We leave that to the panel on the trial procedures. Usually, it will be requested during Jokowi’s examination,” he clarified.

Polda Metro Jaya previously confirmed that the case of accusations of Jokowi’s fake diploma will continue for five suspects.

The five suspects are Roy Suryo, Kurnia Tri Rohyani, Rustam Effendi, Muhammad Rizal Fadillah, and Tifauziah Tyassuma alias dr Tifa.

“The investigation process against the other suspects will continue until the trial stage in court,” said Director of General Criminal Investigation Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, in a press conference on Friday (17/4).

He added that the case files for the five suspects have also been sent to the Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office for examination by investigating prosecutors.

“The case files have been sent to the DKI Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office for further processing,” he said.
