Jokowi Confirmed to Attend MPR Annual Session and 81st Independence Day Ceremony at the Palace
Indonesia’s seventh President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has confirmed he will attend the MPR Annual Session on Friday, 14 August 2026. He also stated he will be present at the 81st Independence Day commemoration ceremony at Merdeka Palace on Monday, 17 August 2026.
He said invitations for both state events have been received.
“I will attend, God willing. Because the invitation has also been received. I will attend. The invitation will also be accepted. Mrs Jokowi is preparing the outfit to be worn,” said Jokowi on Wednesday, 12 August 2026.
However, Jokowi has not yet disclosed what he will wear when attending the MPR Annual Session or the Independence Day ceremony at Merdeka Palace.
Previously, Secretary General of the MPR, Siti Fauziah, visited Jokowi’s residence in Sumber, Banjarsari, Solo, to personally deliver the invitation to the MPR Annual Session.
“We are from the MPR. As Secretary General of the MPR, I have been mandated by the MPR leadership to deliver the invitation to the MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPD and DPR on 14 August, this Friday,” said Siti.
Siti also said Jokowi has confirmed his attendance at the annual agenda.
“God willing, he will attend. That is his only task,” she said.
Besides Jokowi, the MPR has also invited all former presidents and vice presidents to attend the MPR Annual Session.
“Everyone is invited. Former presidents, former vice presidents, all are invited to the annual session,” said Siti.
Jokowi also responded to speculation that the relationship between President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka is not harmonious.
The speculation emerged after Gibran’s seating position during the Cabinet Session on 20 July 2026 drew attention. However, Jokowi assured that the relationship between Prabowo and Gibran remains good.
“It is fine, the relationship between Gibran and Prabowo. It is fine,” said Jokowi in response to the speculation of a rift.
Regarding the seating position controversy at state events, Jokowi said the matter should be referred to the applicable protocol regulations.
He referred to Law Number 9 of 2010 on Protocol, which regulates positions during state events.
“Constitutionally, the position of the vice president is clear. And the Protocol Law is also clear on everything. Just follow it,” he said.
