Jokowi Confident PSI Will Enter Parliament in 2029, Reveals Key Strategy

Former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is optimistic that the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) will successfully enter parliament in the 2029 General Election. He conveyed this confidence during a Regional Coordination Meeting of the PSI Tulang Bawang Regional Executive Board in Lampung on Friday, 26 June 2026.

According to Jokowi, this opportunity can be realised if the entire party structure works effectively down to the grassroots level and remains consistently present within the community. He praised the performance of PSI General Chair Kaesang Pangarep and the central to regional administrators for successfully strengthening the party’s organisational structure, particularly in Lampung. He specifically highlighted the Tulang Bawang branch for establishing a management structure down to the village level.

"Structure is very important for an organisation. If we have a political machine down to the village level, it means we have a machine with a large capacity. It means we have a party structure with great strength. This needs to be appreciated," he said.

However, Jokowi cautioned that the structure must not exist merely on paper. He urged PSI cadres to actively assist the community in daily life. "For example, if a neighbour passes away, come to offer condolences. If a neighbour is getting married, come to share their happiness. If a relative who lives far away is ill, help take them to the hospital if needed. It is actions like these that will build a good name for PSI," he stated.

He added that PSI must always guard and accompany the people during difficult and hard times. Jokowi admitted he is confident that if all levels of the party consistently implement this working pattern, PSI will achieve positive results in the 2029 legislative election.

"I am sure that if we do this together, from the central board, provincial boards, district boards, branch boards, to the sub-branch boards, we work together. I am sure that in 2029, PSI, regarding the matter of entering parliament, I dare not precede events, but I dare to ensure it will definitely enter parliament," he said.

Despite his confidence that PSI will pass into parliament, Jokowi reminded all cadres that they must continue to work hard to pursue a larger share of the vote.
