Jokowi Chooses to Speak Sparingly on Megawati-Prabowo Meeting
Former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) chose to speak sparingly when asked for his views on the meeting between PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri and President Prabowo Subianto.
Jokowi did not respond and instead continued walking towards the car he was using. “(Regarding the meeting between Mother Mega and Mr President?) Thank you, thank you,” said Jokowi after performing Eid prayers at the Al Bina Mosque in the Gelora Bung Karno Complex (GBK), Jakarta, on Saturday, 21 March 2026.
Jokowi continued this stance in responding to questions from the media at the location, including regarding his plans to mark the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah moment. “I forgive, that’s all,” said the former Jakarta Governor. Nevertheless, Jokowi did not explain in detail about accepting the apology in question.
Indonesia’s 7th President performed Eid al-Fitr prayers together with his wife, Iriana Jokowi, and PSI General Chair Kaesang Pangarep. He and Iriana departed for Jakarta on Thursday, 19 March 2026. The two will be in Jakarta until 24 March 2026.

As is known, PDIP expelled Jokowi along with his son and daughter-in-law for being deemed to have committed serious party ethical violations. In the previous presidential election, Jokowi instead supported the Prabowo-Gibran duo rather than the Ganjar-Mahfud duo endorsed by PDIP.
President Prabowo Subianto met with Megawati Soekarnoputri on Thursday, 19 March 2026, at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. The meeting moment was shared by the Cabinet Secretariat’s Instagram account. In the photo shared by the Cabinet Secretariat, Prabowo appeared to hold Megawati’s hand. President Prabowo was seen leading the woman who was once his running mate in the 2009 presidential election as they descended the palace stairs.
Megawati wore batik-patterned clothing with a blue motif during the meeting. Meanwhile, Prabowo wore a khaki safari suit complete with a presidential pin.
In this visit, Indonesia’s 5th President was accompanied by her daughter, who is also the Chair of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani. Meanwhile, Prabowo was accompanied by Gerindra Party Daily Chairman Sufmi Dasco Ahmad as well as Prabowo’s son, Didit Hediprasetyo.
PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said that the meeting between Megawati and Prabowo was a meeting between old friends. In the friendship, he said, the two discussed various topics, from domestic issues to geopolitics. “The meeting between national leaders as occurred with President Prabowo and Fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri, in addition to being in line with the nation’s culture of mutual dialogue and deliberation, is also aimed at the interests of the people, nation, and state,” Hasto said in a written statement on Thursday.
