VIVA – Seventh President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, admitted to contacting his ‘brother’, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ), to inquire about the situation of the Iran war and its impact on global oil prices.

Jokowi shared this during a speech at the Halalbihalal Event and 1st Anniversary of Youtuber Nusantara at Hotel Sunan in Solo, on Saturday, 4 April 2026.

“I called when the war was just three days old; I called my brother in the UAE, the honourable MBZ. I asked him, Your Highness, when will the war end? It had just started, and I asked when approximately the war would end. He replied, it’s not certain, and unclear,” said Jokowi.

Jokowi also asked MBZ for projections on oil prices, but the response was similarly filled with uncertainty. He posed these questions because the UAE is one of the Gulf countries close to the conflict vortex—even a victim.

“Then I asked how high the oil price would go; he also replied it’s not certain and unclear. Because the calculations are indeed very complicated and difficult,” Jokowi stated.

Not only to MBZ, Jokowi also contacted one of the UAE ministers to ask the same things. “I called the minister there again; the answer was the same,” said Jokowi.

“Even those already in the war circle cannot estimate it, let alone us here. It’s very difficult to estimate and predict when the war will end and when oil prices will return to normal,” he added.

Indonesia Not Raising Fuel Prices

Previously, Jokowi mentioned that the government decision under President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership not to raise fuel (BBM) prices amid the raging conflict in the Middle East was a bold one.

Jokowi assessed that the current geopolitical challenges—the war between America-Israel against Iran—have caused global uncertainty and left all countries puzzled in facing this situation. Thus, almost all countries are experiencing difficult situations due to the Middle East crisis.

“Yesterday afternoon, I saw Brent oil prices had reached 108 to 112; this is a number that’s not easy, from the previous 60-70, meaning the increase is almost double, if continued, no country can withstand it,” said Jokowi at the Halalbihalal & 1st Anniversary Event of Youtuber Nusantara held at Hotel Sunan, Solo, on Saturday, 4 April 2026.
