Joint volunteers extinguish forest fire on Mount Sindoro
Temanggung (ANTARA) - Joint personnel from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), Perum Perhutani, and local community members successfully extinguished a forest and land fire in the Mount Sindoro area, Temanggung Regency, Central Java, on Saturday.
The Head of the Temanggung Regency BPBD, Totok Nursetyanto, stated that the fire occurred within the Perum Perhutani forest area, specifically in Plot 11 J, Seceker Block, Kwadungan Forest Management Unit, Temanggung BKPH, North Kedu KPH, within the administrative area of Katekan Village, Ngadirejo District.
“The fire was successfully extinguished thanks to the promptness of the joint personnel who moved immediately after receiving information regarding smoke in the forest area,” he said.
He explained that the initial information regarding the smoke was received at approximately 14:12 WIB from KRPH Jumprit Nur Sulis. This information was then forwarded to the relevant officers to ensure immediate handling.
The joint personnel subsequently moved towards the location where fire spots were reported in the Mount Sindoro forest area. Upon arriving at Plot 11 J, officers discovered several fire spots, which were immediately addressed through firefighting efforts.
“Officers carried out the extinguishment by creating firebreaks and directly attacking the fire spots using available equipment,” he said.
The firefighting efforts were conducted collectively by joint personnel involving elements from the BPBD, TNI, Polri, Perum Perhutani, volunteers, and local residents. He explained that due to the alertness and cooperation of all personnel, the fire was successfully extinguished at approximately 15:03 WIB.
After the fire was out, officers conducted monitoring to ensure there were no remaining fire spots or smoke that could potentially trigger a re-ignition. He urged the public to increase vigilance against the potential for forest and land fires, particularly during the dry season.
