Jakarta (ANTARA) - A joint team removed 286 cubic metres of rubbish from the Kencana temporary waste collection point located beneath the Ir Wiyoto Wiyono toll road at RW 08, Sungai Bambu subdistrict, Tanjung Priok district, North Jakarta.

"The community clean-up is a tangible expression of synergy between security forces, the government, and the public in creating a clean and healthy environment," said North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat in Jakarta on Friday.

He expressed strong support for the initiative, emphasising that cleanliness is a shared responsibility. "This movement is not merely a slogan but real action that must become part of our work culture and daily life," he said.

According to Hendra, the effort is in line with President Prabowo Subianto's directive to promote a national movement for creating clean, healthy, and comfortable environments.

The North Jakarta municipal government is committed to ensuring that public spaces are increasingly well-managed and suitable for community use.

"We hope to realise a Jakarta, particularly a North Jakarta, that is cleaner, greener, and more comfortable for all residents," Hendra said.

Meanwhile, Amir, head of the Environmental Affairs Unit for Tanjung Priok district, said the clean-up involved approximately 500 combined personnel drawn from police, local government, and community elements.

"Yesterday afternoon's clean-up operation successfully removed 286 cubic metres of rubbish using 13 vehicles. This activity has been extremely helpful in tackling the accumulation of waste beneath the toll road," he said.

He expressed hope that public awareness about not disposing of rubbish indiscriminately would continue to grow. His office also confirmed that the local Environmental Agency would continue to carry out regular and sustained clean-up operations at the site.

"We will continue to monitor and clean the area. However, the key ultimately lies in community participation in maintaining environmental cleanliness," he said.
