A joint team from the West Lombok Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), Mataram Customs, and Mataram Military Police Detachment thwarted an attempt to smuggle over 1 million illegal cigarettes. The team intercepted a truck carrying the illegal cigarettes after unloading at Lembar Port, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

Head of the West Lombok Satpol PP, I Ketut Rauh, revealed that the discovery stemmed from intelligence information about a truck transporting illegal cigarettes from Sidoarjo, East Java. The joint team intercepted the truck at Lembar Port on Friday afternoon (8/5).

“Instant noodle cartons were stacked to deceive us, but upon deeper inspection, there were thousands of packs of illegal cigarettes,” Rauh stated in his comments on Saturday (9/5/2026).

According to Rauh, various brands of illegal cigarettes intended for smuggling included Reno, Novem, and Humer. He suspects the illegal cigarettes were to be distributed on Lombok Island and Sumbawa.

Rauh said the millions of illegal cigarettes consisted of 879,000 machine-made clove cigarettes (SKM) and 123,000 machine-made white cigarettes (SPM). “The value of the goods is around Rp 1.4 billion, and the potential state loss is estimated at Rp 978 million,” Rauh remarked.

Currently, all evidence has been secured at the Mataram Customs Office. The illegal cigarettes are planned to be destroyed along with other findings from previous enforcements.

“They will be destroyed together with the findings in shops,” he concluded.
