Joint team extinguishes land fire in Mount Rinjani area
A joint team from the Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) Office has moved swiftly to extinguish a land fire at the Setampol Torean peak within the Mount Rinjani area, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
“The location of the fire is outside the Mount Rinjani hiking trails,” said Astekita Ardi, Head of the Administrative Sub-division of the Mount Rinjani National Park Office NTB, in Mataram on Wednesday.
She stated that the forest and land fire incident at the Setampol Peak, Torean Resort, occurred on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, at 18:50 WITA.
Following the report, the Mount Rinjani National Park Office prepared an initial firefighting team to carry out early suppression efforts and to assess the severity and extent of the fire at the scene.
“Considering personnel safety factors and the fact that the incident occurred late in the evening, the team’s departure was carried out today (Wednesday),” she said.
The TNGR Office continues to monitor and coordinate the fire management at Setampol Peak. Further updates will be provided based on monitoring results and reports from officers on the ground.
“Officers are currently carrying out suppression efforts,” she added.
She also urged the public and visitors to work together to preserve the environmental sustainability of the Mount Rinjani area in Lombok.
“As the current weather has entered the dry season, we urge hikers not to discard cigarette butts carelessly or engage in waste burning, which could cause land fires,” she said.
