Joint team evacuates 150 passengers from stricken vessel off Pulau Pari

A joint team evacuated 150 passengers from the KM Makmur Jaya after the vessel experienced engine trouble in waters west of Pulau Pari, South Seribu Islands, on Sunday morning. Head of the Seribu Islands Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Mansyah, stated that the evacuation proceeded smoothly thanks to coordination among all involved elements and support from local residents. Upon receiving the report, the joint team immediately moved to the location to ensure the safety of all passengers. All 150 passengers were successfully evacuated in safe condition and received health checks after arriving at Pulau Pari. Following the health checks, the passengers were dispatched to their final destination, Pulau Pramuka, using a BPBD vessel. Passenger safety is the top priority. After confirming all passengers were in good condition, they were facilitated to continue their journey to Pulau Pramuka. There were no fatalities in the incident. Material losses are estimated at around Rp50 million. The KM Makmur Jaya remains under further handling by the relevant authorities. The 51 GT passenger transport vessel had departed from Kali Adem Port, North Jakarta, bound for Pulau Pramuka at 08.15 WIB. However, while in waters west of Pulau Pari at around 09.55 WIB, the vessel experienced a fuel system disruption after water was found mixed into the fuel, preventing the engine from operating normally. The incident report was received by officers at around 10.20 WIB. A cross-sector joint team from Pulau Pari, comprising BPBD, the police sub-sector, Bhabinkamtibmas, Satpol PP, the Port Authority (KSOP), the Transportation Agency, the Fire Department, PK3D, the Environment Unit, the Health Post, and FKDM, immediately headed to the location to carry out the evacuation. Captain of the KM Makmur Jaya, Murinan, explained that the disruption occurred because the fuel was mixed with water, affecting the ship’s engine performance. Upon inspection by the crew, water was found mixed into the fuel, causing the engine to malfunction and the vessel unable to continue its voyage. Passenger Yuli, 42, admitted to feeling worried when the ship stopped in the middle of the sea but felt relieved after the joint officers arrived and carried out the evacuation.
