Joint team arrests suspect in police attack during Katingan drug raid
Palangka Raya (ANTARA) - A joint task force from the Central Kalimantan Regional Police has arrested a man, identified by the initials S alias A, who is suspected of being involved in an attack against personnel from the Katingan Police Narcotics Unit during a raid on a methamphetamine dealer in Tumbang Kalemei Village, Central Katingan District, on Thursday (2/7).
“It is true; based on information from the team in the field, the joint task force has successfully secured one suspect,” stated the Head of Central Kalimantan Regional Police, Inspector General Iwan Kurniawan, in Katingan on Friday.
According to field reports, the suspect was apprehended at a gold dredging raft in the Tumbang Pariyei Village area, Central Katingan District, Katingan Regency.
The suspect had previously been the target of a police manhunt following the attack, which resulted in the death of a police officer.
At the time of his arrest, the suspect was with his wife and acted cooperatively when officers requested his surrender.
The suspect, identified by the initials A, has been detained for further investigation regarding his alleged involvement in the attack on the police.
Joint authorities are still hunting for several other individuals suspected of participating in the assault.
“Other suspects are still being pursued by the joint task force. We will continue our investigations until all parties involved are secured,” he said.
The Regional Police Chief added that solving this case is a police priority following the death of the late Aipda Yudhie Perdana Putra while performing his duties during a narcotics eradication operation in the Katingan area.
He committed to investigating the case thoroughly and requested the public’s support and prayers for the safety of officers in the field.
“We are committed to resolving this case completely and ensuring all perpetrators are held accountable for their actions in accordance with the applicable legal process,” said Iwan.
