Joint Task Force Dismantles 216 Illegal Structures Along Cianjur-Bandung Highway

A joint task force in Cianjur Regency, West Java, has carried out an operation to demolish hundreds of illegal structures (bangli) erected along the Bandung-Cianjur Highway. The firm action was taken to restore the function of the road right-of-way (rumija).

Head of Regional Regulation Enforcement for the Cianjur Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) and Fire Department, Alba Nurahma, explained that the demolition of the illegal buildings was conducted on Sunday (2/8). The enforcement operation focused on two main points, specifically in the Sukaluyu and Ciranjang sub-districts.

“We demolished around 216 kiosks and illegal buildings along the Bandung-Cianjur Highway, precisely in the Ciranjang and Sukaluyu sub-districts,” Alba stated on Monday (3/8).

This enforcement is based on a strong legal foundation, namely Cianjur Regency Regional Regulation Number 1/2019 in conjunction with Regional Regulation Number 3/2020 concerning the Implementation of Public Order and Community Peace. Additionally, the action follows up on a letter from the West Java Province Satpol PP dated 10 April 2026 regarding the ‘Indonesia Asri’ programme through ‘Jawa Barat Berseka’.

Alba added that the legality of the field operation was also reinforced by an Appeal Letter from the Cianjur Satpol PP and Fire Department Number B/300/949/SATPOL PP-DAMKAR/07/2026, issued on 6 July 2026.

According to him, the activity aims to create a more organised, safe, and comfortable area for the community, as well as to maintain public order. Before the forced demolition was carried out, the government claimed to have conducted outreach and issued warning letters so that building owners would dismantle their own structures.

“However, for buildings that remained on the site after the deadline expired, enforcement was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the applicable laws and regulations,” Alba asserted.

Regarding the fate of the affected traders, Alba confirmed that his party has proposed the provision of compensation to the West Java Provincial Government. “(Compensation) has been proposed to the provincial government,” he concluded.

The enforcement involved various cross-agency elements, ranging from the Civil Service Police Unit, the Environmental Agency, the Transportation Agency, the Housing and Settlement Agency (Disperkim), the Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (PUTR), to TNI and Polri personnel. The Cianjur Regency Government hopes this measure will improve driver safety and support better urban area planning.
