Joint task force cracks down on illegal parking in West Jakarta's Palmerah area

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some 30 joint personnel carried out a crackdown on illegal parking and street vendor stalls on Jalan Kota Bambu Raya, Kota Bambu Utara Urban Village (KBU), Palmerah Subdistrict, West Jakarta, on Thursday.

Palmerah Subdistrict Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) Head Rojikin said the operation involved joint officers from the Transportation Agency, Satpol PP, the military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri).

“As a result, 28 illegally parked two-wheeled vehicles and 15 offending street vendor stalls were dealt with,” Rojikin said in Jakarta on Thursday.

He detailed that the 28 motorcycles penalised comprised six units towed away by officers’ nets and 22 others subjected to wheel-clamping sanctions (OCP).

“This activity is aimed at maintaining the comfort and order of the neighbourhood,” he said.

Rojikin added that the operation is expected to educate the public not to occupy pavements or road shoulders for parking or for setting up business stalls.

Besides disrupting comfort and public order, their presence also has the potential to cause traffic congestion.

“We urge the public to comply with traffic rules and not to park or trade on pavements or the roadway. Violations will be dealt with firmly,” he concluded.
