Jakarta (ANTARA) - Joint task force officers carried out a crackdown on illegal parking along Jalan Puri Kembangan in West Jakarta on Friday, as a follow-up to reports from the public.

Head of the Operational Section of the West Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department, Agus Prasetyo, stated that the operation was initiated after residents complained about the proliferation of illegal parking in the area.

“This crackdown is being conducted in the Puri, CNI, and surrounding areas because it has become a concern for the public. We towed eight motorcycles, while for about 80 vehicles, we removed the valves to create a deterrent effect,” Agus told reporters at the location on Friday.

Despite the installation of no-parking signs, many two-wheeled vehicles boldly parked on the roadside.

The arrival of the officers caused panic among several motorcyclists who had previously parked their vehicles irregularly, and they rushed to move their bikes.

Agus explained that limited towing fleet availability was one reason not all vehicles could be immediately towed.

Nevertheless, the valve removal action is expected to serve as a deterrent for violators.

Agus added that the towed vehicles would be taken to the West Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department office.

Vehicle owners are required to submit a statement of commitment not to repeat similar violations.

“Because we only have one truck, we towed eight motorcycles. For the rest, we conducted valve removal operations to deter the public,” he said.

Officers also urged the public to obey traffic signs and not park vehicles in prohibited areas to maintain order and smooth traffic flow.
