Joint Search Team Recovers Body of Man Who Drowned in Kali Sunter
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Personnel from the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) at the Jakarta SAR Office, together with joint SAR elements, finally recovered the body of a man who drowned in Kali Sunter on Wednesday (18/2) at approximately 22:45 Western Indonesian Time.
"The victim's body was found floating on the water surface within a 20-metre radius of the incident location," said Jakarta SAR Office team commander Herlan Soeltan AA in Jakarta on Thursday.
He said the victim was finally found on Wednesday evening and was immediately evacuated to the Police Hospital in Kramat Jati for further processing. "After that, the body was handed over to the family," he said.
Previously, search efforts were conducted by sweeping the area using rubber boats. Jakarta SAR Office personnel also used a device called Aqua Eye to detect objects beneath the water surface, as well as grappling hooks.
The search for the fisherman was also carried out overland along the banks of Kali Sunter, extending up to 500 metres from the incident location.
The SAR operation involved dozens of joint SAR personnel comprising the Jakarta SAR Office, Tanjung Priok Police Sector, Babinsa from Military District Command 0502, the North Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), North Jakarta Fire Service, North Jakarta branch of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), North Jakarta Urban Sanitation Workers (PPSU), Redkar, Khatulistiwa, and officials from Sunter Agung Urban Village.
The victim, identified as Vendi (51), reportedly drowned after falling into Kali Sunter on Tuesday (17/2) at approximately 17:30 Western Indonesian Time on Jalan Danau Sunter Barat (Jembatan Item), Sunter Agung Urban Village, Tanjung Priok Sub-district, North Jakarta, DKI Jakarta Province.
