Joint SAR Team Searches for 5 Missing Passengers from KMP Putri Yasmin in Lombok Strait

Search and rescue (SAR) operations for victims of the KMP Putri Yasmin passenger ferry fire in the waters of the Lombok Strait, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), are being intensified as of Thursday (13/8/2026). The joint SAR team is now focusing its efforts on locating five passengers who are still reported missing.

The Head of the Mataram SAR Office, Muhamad Hariyadi, explained that the search area has been expanded, involving personnel from the Mataram SAR Office and the Denpasar SAR Office. The team has deployed a number of main assets, including the KN SAR Arjuna and RIB 02 Mataram, to comb the waters.

‘The search is being conducted from the incident location towards the southwest. We are also broadcasting information to ships passing through the waters of the Lombok Strait,’ Hariyadi stated in Mataram on Thursday.

Based on the latest data as of Thursday afternoon, the total number of victims evacuated stands at 212 people. Of that number, 211 people were declared safe, while one person was reported dead.

Hariyadi added that the search efforts are being carried out in parallel, both through surface water movement and intensive coordination with shipping traffic around the incident location. ‘In addition to direct searches, we are instructing ships passing through the Lombok Strait to provide initial assistance or immediately inform the command post if they find any signs of the victims,’ he stressed.

As of now, the joint team remains on standby and is conducting searches at potential points according to the direction of sea currents to ensure all passengers can be found.
