Joint SAR team evacuates fallen ritual climber on Mount Rinjani

A joint team from the Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) has evacuated a ritual climber who suffered a fatal accident on the Torean route of Mount Rinjani, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The victim, identified by the initials GA (17) from Mataram, was estimated to have fallen into a ravine approximately 100 metres deep and was presumed dead upon discovery. According to TNGR Head of Administration Astekita Ardi, the victim was registered as a ritual climber and began the ascent on 26 July 2026 via the Dusun Senange route in Sambik Elen Village, North Lombok Regency. The incident was reported on Monday, 27 July 2026, at 19:05 Wita. Communication with the victim’s companion indicated the fall occurred above the Kebun Jeruk shelter before Banyu Urip. The companion reported that the victim could be reached without ropes, had suffered fractures in several parts of the body, and showed no signs of movement. A joint SAR team deployed with rescue equipment to the Torean entry point and successfully lifted the victim from the fall site to the Kebun Jeruk shelter. The body was then brought down to the Torean entry point on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, and subsequently transported to Senaru Community Health Centre before being handed over to the family. The family then took the deceased to a funeral home in Cakranegara. The Mount Rinjani National Park Office expressed appreciation for the prompt collaboration of the joint SAR team, which included Basarnas Mataram, the Indonesian National Armed Forces and Police, Asuransi Syariah Kita Bisa (EMHC), the East Lombok SAR Unit, and volunteers. Officials extended their deepest condolences to the bereaved family, wishing them fortitude and strength in facing the tragedy.
