Joint responders assist in evacuating flood victims in South Lampung

South Lampung (ANTARA) – A joint search and rescue team continued to evacuate residents still trapped by floods in Jati Agung District, South Lampung Regency. Rully Fikriansyah, head of the Fire and Rescue Section of the South Lampung Fire Department and Disaster Management Agency, said on Friday that the floods were the result of heavy rains that hit the area on Friday afternoon.

‘Hingga saat ini kami bersama BPBD dan Basarnas masih terus melakukan evakuasi terhadap korban yang masih terjebak banjir,’ he said. He added that in the evacuation efforts the joint personnel continued to coordinate with various relevant agencies to evacuate affected residents.

According to preliminary reports, five villages in Jati Agung District were affected by the floods due to the heavy rain. ‘Data sementara saat ini ada lima desa yang terdampak banjir dengan ketinggian air hingga dua meter. Lima desa tersebut yakni Desa Banjar Baru, Gedung Harapan, Karang Anyar, Way Hui, Dan Jatimulyo,’ he said.

He explained that the flash floods disrupted community activities. Therefore he asked residents to be more vigilant against the potential for further flood disasters that could occur at any time, as the area still frequently experiences rain.
