Joint personnel deployed to secure Jalan Tambak Menteng after clash

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police have deployed joint personnel to ensure the area around Jalan Tambak, Menteng, Central Jakarta, remains conducive following a clash that occurred on Sunday morning.

Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung, stated that his team, together with Menteng Police, Kodim 0501/Central Jakarta, and backup operational control personnel from Polda Metro Jaya and Kodam Jaya, have been stationed at the location.

‘Today we from Central Jakarta Police, Kodim 0501 and Menteng Police, assisted by full BKO from Polda Metro Jaya and Kodam Jaya, are conducting security operations to create a conducive situation in the Jalan Tambak, Menteng area,’ Reynold said on Sunday.

He explained that the clash began around 10.00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time due to a dispute between a group of people and Matraman residents. The commotion then shifted to Jalan Tambak and escalated into stone-throwing.

As a result of the incident, two people were evacuated to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. One victim, identified by the initial K (23), died, while the other victim is still undergoing treatment.

The police chief appealed to the public not to readily believe unverified information regarding the incident. ‘As of tonight, we can confirm the situation is safe and conducive. We are providing a sense of safety and comfort to residents, especially in the Tambak, Matraman and Menteng areas,’ he said.

According to Reynold, the police will also continue to conduct patrols to maintain security and follow up on any public reports that could potentially disrupt public order. He added that the investigation into the cause of the clash is still ongoing to identify all parties involved in accordance with legal procedures.

‘We are carrying out law enforcement so that both sides can be treated fairly in the legal process, both the residents and the group of people who became victims,’ he said.
