Jakarta (ANTARA) — Dozens of joint personnel are carrying out temporary repairs on a wall that collapsed at the RPTRA Bhineka child-friendly integrated public space on Jalan Swadarma Raya, Petukangan Utara, Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta.

“The water volume was indeed high and quite strong. The wall adjoining the embankment was ultimately unable to hold and collapsed at around 05:00 Western Indonesian Time this morning,” said Petukangan Utara sub-district head Ahmad Hasan Husaini in Jakarta on Friday.

He explained that the RPTRA wall gave way and collapsed due to prolonged heavy rainfall, which caused the Kali Uangan river to overflow beyond the wall’s capacity.

He said the collapsed wall is currently being handled by joint personnel comprising officers from the Public Infrastructure and Facilities Management unit (PPSU), the Water Resources agency (SDA), and employees of PT Paragon, whose premises are located near the site.

“We are building a temporary embankment using sandbags for now, to prevent water from further inundating road access or residential areas,” Ahmad said.

Meanwhile, SDA Field Coordinator for Pesanggrahan sub-district, Halim, explained that in addition to sandbags, his team is also helping to construct supports using dolken timber.

“There are currently 40 joint personnel working together to carry out temporary repairs. Hopefully everything will be completed today,” Halim said.

He noted that the collapsed section of wall, approximately 20 metres in length, stands on land belonging to the DKI Jakarta Parks and Urban Forestry Agency, meaning further remediation will be handed over to the relevant authorities.

“Because rain continues to pour over Jakarta, we are focusing on temporary measures first, as the water level in the Kali Uangan river has not yet stabilised,” Halim said.
