Jakarta (ANTARA) - Officers from the West Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jakbar) dismantled and seized street vendor (PKL) stalls trading on the sidewalks of six roads in the Sukabumi Utara area, Kebon Jeruk, on Wednesday.

West Jakarta Satpol PP Chief, Herry Purnama, when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Wednesday, said the dismantling was preceded by several socialisation and notification efforts, culminating in tiered warnings issued by the relevant sub-district head.

“We enforced it according to procedure, so it was preceded by socialisation and notifications,” Herry stated.

Herry explained that the vendors had persistently occupied land not intended for trading, including sidewalks, road shoulders, and riverbanks.

“These violators occupied locations prohibited by Local Regulation No. 8 of 2007 (on public order). So, until now, they were unaware that sidewalks and road shoulders were being used for trading,” Herry said.

Meanwhile, Sukabumi Utara Sub-district Head, Ali Sahidin, stated that the six roads swept by officers were Jalan Lapangan Bola, Jalan Masjid Assurur, Jalan Panjang Arteri Pos Pengumben, Jalan Bang Pitung, Rawa Belong, and Jalan E.

As a result, officers seized stalls, carts, benches, umbrellas, and an odong-odong from six PKL vendors. Additionally, officers dispersed a tyre workshop occupying the sidewalk on Jalan Bang Pitung.

“On Jalan Bang Pitung, officers also dismantled five pallets covering a 30-metre drainage channel, including advising flower stall owners not to place their goods on the sidewalk. The results of the enforcement were transported by fleet to the Satpol PP warehouse in Kebon Jeruk Sub-district,” he said.

He hopes this activity will have a deterrent effect so that traders no longer misuse sidewalks to set up stalls.

“We hope all parties realise that sidewalks are for pedestrians, so they do not misuse the function of sidewalks and make the area shabby,” he added.
