JAKARTA (ANTARA) – A joint patrol from Jakarta East Metropolitan Police (Polres Jaktim) and Brimob personnel swiftly dispersed a clash between community groups along I Gusti Ngurah Rai Street in East Jakarta on Monday morning. ‘Officers received reports from the public about the riot on I Gusti Ngurah Rai Street. The Presisi Patrol Teams C and D, along with Brimob personnel, immediately proceeded to the scene to handle the situation,’ said East Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Kombes Pol Alfian Nurrizal in Jakarta on Monday. He confirmed the joint forces dispersed the riot before it caused larger casualties or widespread security disruptions. ‘East Jakarta Metropolitan Police Presisi Patrol Team and Brimob personnel swiftly responded to public reports of the riot at around 7:10 AM WIB,’ Alfian said. Upon arrival, officers immediately took action to disperse the groups involved in the riot. The tense situation was brought under control after officers conducted a sweep across the clash area. Police also increased security at the Bonsi Integrated Post to prevent potential follow-up incidents or other security threats. According to Alfian, the joint patrol involving Presisi Patrol and Brimob personnel is part of preventive measures to maintain public order and security in East Jakarta, which has recently been prone to riots. ‘The situation is currently stable and secure. We urge the public to immediately report any potential threats to public safety and order so they can be addressed promptly,’ Alfian added. Earlier, a clash between residents occurred along I Gusti Ngurah Rai Street in Klender, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, on Monday morning, causing a traffic jam exceeding two kilometres. ‘It’s really disruptive, especially on a Monday when people are starting their day. A long traffic jam so early because of the riot,’ said motorcyclist Alwan (32) at the scene in East Jakarta on Monday. The attacks began early morning, causing complete traffic paralysis from Bekasi to Cipinang. The clash between residents of Kebon Singkong, Klender, and Cipinang Jagal, Pulogadung, forced motorists and riders to stop and wait for the situation to stabilise before proceeding. Both groups were seen attacking each other with sharp weapons, stones, and firecrackers. The tense atmosphere led road users to pull over to avoid being hit. According to Alwan, such clashes not only endanger safety but also disrupt residents’ ability to commute to work.
