Joint Iftar Gathering of TNI-Police Strengthens Solidarity in Safeguarding the Unitary State
Jakarta — Indonesia’s National Police (Polri) and the Military (TNI) held a joint Ramadan iftar dinner aimed at strengthening solidarity and synergy in maintaining the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia safe and conducive.
The iftar gathering with the theme “Fasting Strengthens Faith and Piety” took place at Bhayangkara Field, Polri headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Police Chief Jenderal Listyo Sigit Prabowo officially opened the event, which was attended by Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, the Chair of the House of Representatives’ Commission I Utut Adianto, senior Polri and TNI officials, and Islamic preacher Ustadz Adi Hidayat, who delivered a Ramadan sermon.
In his remarks, the Police Chief conveyed that global dynamics impacting the national level can be confronted collectively through unity and cohesion of all national components.
“Therefore, going forward, we must continue to maintain our solidarity, preserve our synergy, and ensure that TNI and Polri truly carry out their mandate in facing existing global dynamics, global impacts and their threats to our domestic situation,” he stated.
“However, if we all unite — TNI, Polri, society, religious leaders and all national elements united — we are confident we can navigate these times,” he added.
The Police Chief noted that this message of unity and cohesion has been repeatedly conveyed by President Prabowo Subianto in every meeting with ministries as well as TNI and Polri.
Sigit stated that TNI and Polri must always remain united, coordinated and synergistic.
“The President has conveyed that both TNI and Polri were born from the struggle for independence and participated in maintaining that independence,” Sigit said.
The four-star general reminded that TNI soldiers and Polri personnel have sworn an oath as servants of the state whose integrity must be preserved.
“I must emphasise that the mandate of the Constitution is clear in Article 30 concerning the security and defence system with universal participation — TNI and the Indonesian National Police are the primary forces and the people are the supporting force,” Sigit stated.
This message of synergy was also reinforced in the Ramadan sermon delivered by Ustadz Adi Hidayat.
In his sermon, Ustadz Adi conveyed that this joint iftar gathering between TNI and Polri represents a moment of unified purpose and shared inspiration to all regions of Indonesia, declaring the complete readiness of TNI and Polri to unite in creating a sense of security whilst safeguarding the nation’s resilience.
This commitment is also reflected in the colour of TNI and Polri service uniforms. The brown colour of Polri uniforms, from a historical perspective, not only represents simplicity, dignity, strength and readiness to serve, but also reflects Indonesia’s fertile topography and geography — brown soil.
“This brown uniform represents readiness so that across every corner of fertile and brown Indonesian soil, Polri stands ready to protect the NKRI territory,” he said.
Likewise, the TNI’s green uniform historically not only displays confidence and dignity but also represents Indonesia’s green geography.
“When TNI and Polri are unified, the message is that beneath Indonesia’s fertile and brown soil, above it stands green vegetation protecting Indonesian sovereignty,” he stated.
The colours of TNI and Polri uniforms, according to Ustadz Adi, represent the Unitary State, commitment and inseparable unity.
“There cannot be any narrative dividing TNI and Polri. There cannot be any narrative pitting TNI and Polri against each other, because when TNI and Polri are presented for Indonesia, from their uniforms and their very nature, both are primary forces for defence that create a sense of security for the Indonesian people and nation,” he concluded.
