Joint forces clear illegal structures in Makasar, East Jakarta

A joint task force from the East Jakarta City Government has cleared illegal structures along Jalan Kerja Bakti, RT 01/RW 02, Makasar Urban Village, Makasar District, East Jakarta. Makasar District Satpol PP Head Robinhot Butar Butar stated that he had previously gone door-to-door to inform traders to vacate the buildings, but they repeatedly requested extensions. The traders initially asked for a delay as they were still selling school supplies, including books, bags, and shoes. The Satpol PP accommodated this and postponed the action, but when enforcement was imminent, the traders requested a further delay until 30 July 2026. Robinhot said that further postponement would only waste time, so the request was denied and the operation proceeded. He noted that the cleared buildings were mostly used as storage for street vendors’ goods, along with a public toilet and trader kiosks.

Makasar Subdistrict Head Dimas Prayudi explained that the demolition was carried out following a request from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and PT Jasa Marga. Approximately seven illegal buildings and several stalls used by 50 traders were cleared in accordance with Regional Regulation No. 07/2007 on Public Order. Dimas said that prior to the operation, the building owners were given notice and understood the situation, so the structures were already empty when the demolition took place. After the clearance, the land will be restored to its function as a green belt or park. The traders are being encouraged to move into the Makasar Embrio Market or Lokbin. He confirmed that coordination has been carried out with the market management and the traders, with 37 of the 50 traders already registered to relocate. He urged the remaining traders to register so they can continue selling in a legal location. In the surrounding area, particularly in RW 04 across the road, there are still 80 illegal buildings on land owned by PT Jasa Marga, which have been used as dwellings and storage for scrap materials. A total of 160 joint personnel were deployed for the operation, including Satpol PP, public infrastructure officers, the fire and rescue service, the water resources agency, the roads agency, the parks and urban forest agency, the military and police, as well as local neighbourhood and community forum representatives.
