The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology has stated that a Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) from seven ministers on guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the education sector will be published shortly and made accessible to the public.

Khairul Munadi, Director General of Higher Education at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, stated that the administrative process for the document is still underway, although it has already been signed. “The document is indeed undergoing administrative processing including duplication and related matters. It will be announced shortly. Within the next one or two days, it will definitely be accessible,” said Khairul at the Ministry’s office in South Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.

He noted that coordination of the policy signature was conducted by the Ministry of State for Human Development and Culture. The document is awaited by the public as it will serve as the national guideline for the utilisation of digital technology and AI in education.

Previously, the government issued national guidelines for the utilisation of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in the education sector. These guidelines have been formalised in a Joint Ministerial Decree signed at the office of the Ministry of State for Human Development and Culture on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

The decree establishes guidelines for the utilisation of digital technology and AI in the learning process across formal, non-formal, and informal education pathways. The regulation involves seven ministries: the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, the Ministry of Population and Family Development, and the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection.

Pratikno, Minister of State for Human Development and Culture, stated that the guidelines have been developed to ensure that the use of digital technology and AI in education provides benefits to the learning process whilst minimising potential risks to learners.

According to Pratikno, the utilisation of such technology is also tailored to the readiness of learners at each level of education. The higher the educational level, the broader the scope for the use of digital technology and AI in the learning process. “The higher the educational level, the greater the scope for technology utilisation that can be conducted in a wider and more flexible manner,” said Pratikno.
