Joint commitment needed to create comfortable and safe traditional markets
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Wahyu Dewanto, stated that the revitalisation of traditional markets in DKI also needs to be supported by joint commitment to create markets that are comfortable and safe for buyers.
“To realise comfortable and safe markets, it is not just about improving the physical form, but building joint commitment with the existing traders to create a comfortable and safe market atmosphere,” said Wahyu in Jakarta on Tuesday.
According to him, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s steps to revitalise traditional markets to make them better need to be supported by all parties.
He said that at present, when everyone is committed to maintaining the comfort and security of the market, it can be done without having to wait for revitalisation.
“This joint commitment effort can actually be started in all existing markets by starting to tidy up, maintain cleanliness, and comfort in the market environment,” he stated.
He added that the start of the revitalisation of Pasar Gardu Asem in Central Jakarta and Pasar Kramat Jaya in North Jakarta is part of the plan to modernise 153 traditional markets and is hoped to become an example of traditional market modernisation.
“Hopefully, the transformation of traditional markets in Jakarta can soon be realised, in line with the gradual physical rehabilitation process,” he said.
Previously, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government officially began the revitalisation of Pasar Gardu Asem and the construction of Pasar Kramat Jaya in North Jakarta on Monday, marked by the groundbreaking of the two markets.
Meanwhile, Pasar Kramat Jaya is a new market construction that is expected to provide benefits to the community, especially in North Jakarta.
“In Kramat Jaya, 2,600 square metres will be built with several kiosks and hopefully it will open up social, economic, and cultural spaces in Kramat Jaya,” explained Pramono in his speech at Pasar Gardu Asem, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Monday (6/4).
He wants to carry out improvements to the existing markets in the capital. Not only in terms of arrangement and cleanliness, he also encourages transactions in the markets to be carried out digitally.
If that is done, continued Pramono, the markets in Jakarta could become role models for other regions.
