Johar Baru residents chase and capture motorbike thief armed with a sharp weapon

Two motorbike thieves armed with a knife were chased and captured by residents in Johar Baru, Central Jakarta. According to a video posted on the Instagram account @dashcamindonesia, two men were initially recorded by CCTV in front of a resident’s house. A man wearing a black-and-white jacket was seen on a black motorbike parked on the street in front of the house. Suddenly, a man in a white T-shirt ran from a house opposite the residence. The man in white shirt pushed the man in the black-and-white jacket toward the gate and attacked him with a green round object. Another man emerged from the same house and approached the man in the green jacket who had brought the motorbike from the porch. The man attacked and kicked the man in the green jacket. The man in the green jacket managed to fight back before he ran away and was chased by residents. Then a woman arrived at the scene and helped the man in the white shirt restrain the man in the black-and-white jacket. The man in the black-and-white jacket then fled in the opposite direction and was chased by residents. Meanwhile, two black motorcycles lay abandoned at the scene. Several other residents also ran out of their houses to join the chase of the two men. They were eventually captured by residents. The head of Johar Baru Police, Kompol Saiful Anwar, confirmed the incident. “The incident occurred at 16:10 WIB, on Monday (2 March 2026). The two perpetrators have been secured,” he said in a written statement when contacted on Wednesday (4 March 2026).
