Johar Baru cracks down on street vendors and illegal parking to restore pavement function

The Johar Baru sub-district administration in Central Jakarta cleared street vendors (PKL), illegal parking, and commercial banners along Jalan Percetakan Negara to Jalan Mardani Raya on Wednesday, in an effort to restore the function of public facilities (fasum) and social facilities (fasos) according to their designation. Johar Baru Deputy Sub-district Head Andre Revnic Pasaribu said the operation was carried out through the routine ‘Orderly Wednesday’ activity involving the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), the Transportation Sub-department, the Social Sub-department, the police, and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). ‘This routine weekly activity aims to ensure that public facilities and social facilities in the Johar Baru area function as they should,’ Revnic said in Jakarta on Wednesday. He explained that Social Sub-department officers were tasked with reaching out to individuals with social welfare problems (PMKS) if found on the ground. Meanwhile, the Transportation Sub-department took action against the misuse of roadways, while Satpol PP cleared street vendors using pavements to sell goods. Revnic mentioned that the confiscated carts and banners were taken to the Johar Baru Sub-district Office for data collection. Subsequently, the cart owners will be processed according to regulations through a minor offence (tipiring) court hearing. Furthermore, Revnic disclosed that the enforcement activity involved 45 joint personnel and proceeded safely and conducively. He also urged the public to use pavements and roadways according to their function and to report to the local government if they find any misuse of public facilities so that it can be followed up immediately. ‘In essence, the existing public and social facilities are intended to make Jakarta residents comfortable. If there is anything amiss, please report it,’ Revnic stressed.
