Jogokariyan Mosque in Yogyakarta Records 72 Cattle for Eid al-Adha Sacrifice

Jogokariyan Mosque in Mantrijeron, Yogyakarta City, is experiencing a surge in sacrificial animals ahead of Eid al-Adha on Wednesday, 27 April. A total of 72 cattle have been registered at the mosque, according to mosque committee member Gita Welly Ariadi. He noted that registrations remain open until tomorrow, so the number could increase. “As of today, 72 cattle have been registered, but registrations for sacrificial animals remain open until tomorrow,” Welly said on Monday, 25 May 2026. For goats, Welly said the committee has not yet determined the exact number, as some donors typically bring their animals on the day before the sacrifice. “Goat numbers will only be confirmed tomorrow, as donors usually bring their goats directly on the day before the sacrifice, so the exact count will be known then,” he added. Welly also noted an increase in sacrificial animals compared to last year’s Eid al-Adha. “Last year, there were 65 cattle, whereas as of last night, this year’s figure has reached 72,” he said. Regarding meat distribution, Welly said residents of Jogokariyan village are prioritised. This year, the committee received over 300 meat distribution requests and approved around 70 for distribution outside the area. “Distribution is primarily within Jogokariyan, with some allocated outside. Requests from outside areas are handled proportionally,” he added. “We opened applications for meat distribution yesterday, receiving around 300 requests, of which approximately 70 were approved,” he concluded.
