Joglosemarkerto Train Derails in Gowok, Sleman Following Pacitan Earthquake

A Joglosemarkerto train derailed at the Gowok crossing in Depok, Sleman, on Saturday afternoon, an incident believed to have been triggered by an earthquake that shook the southeastern region of Pacitan, East Java. The derailment was reported by the Instagram account @jogjalife, which stated that the train’s wheels had come off the track. ‘The Joglosemarkerto train briefly experienced a worrying incident when tremors from the earthquake hit the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The incident occurred precisely at the Gowok level crossing,’ the account posted. ‘The shaking was felt so strongly that it caused the train’s wheels to slightly leave the track or derail. There was no collision with other vehicles, crossing gate poles, or buildings beside the track. To date, there have been no reports of injured passengers or fatalities. Immediately after the incident, the driver stopped the train and reported to the control centre.’ Feni Novida Saragih, Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, confirmed the incident. She stated that all train journeys in the Daop 6 Yogyakarta region were temporarily halted for infrastructure and rolling stock inspections following the earthquake. Field teams from KAI Daop 6 immediately conducted thorough checks of infrastructure and facilities, including bridges, rail lines, other supporting infrastructure, and the condition of the train sets. After the field team’s inspection results declared all routes and lines safe, all trains resumed their journeys. ‘KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta apologises for the inconvenience to affected passengers and expresses its gratitude for the customers’ patience regarding the situation,’ she said in a written statement. ‘Post-earthquake infrastructure and rolling stock inspections are a mandatory procedure carried out by KAI to ensure safety aspects are maintained.’ A list of trains that were temporarily halted to await post-earthquake infrastructure and rolling stock inspections in Daop 6 included the Matarmaja, Argo Wilis, Adi Soemarmo Airport Train, Argo Dwipangga, Fajar Utama YK, Kertanegara, Sancaka, Yogyakarta-Palur Commuterline, Gajahwong, Ranggajati, YIA Airport Train, Joglosemarkerto, and Taksaka services. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.6, occurred 86 kilometres southeast of Pacitan, East Java, at a depth of 10 kilometres at 14:47 WIB, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). The quake had no tsunami potential.
