Job seekers protest
JAKARTA (JP): At least 120 job seekers yesterday protested in front of a job broker's office on Jl. Suroso, in Menteng, Central Jakarta, demanding their money back.
Their spokesman said they paid Rp 3 million each to PT Binawan Inti Utama which promised to send them to Taiwan.
"We have been waiting for five months. If the company cannot send us to Taiwan then we want our money back," he said.
He said the company promised them work in a construction firm in Taiwan.
The company's director Saleh Alwani told the protesters to be patient because job seekers had to pass several tests, including medical and psychological tests, before being sent to Taiwan.
"The Taiwanese firm will test the workers here," Saleh said.
He promised to return their money if the company failed to send them to Taiwan.
The demonstration, which started at 11.30 a.m, lasted only two hours. (jun)
