JAKARTA – The Jakarta Provincial Government is working to reduce unemployment by expanding vocational training and internship programmes. One method is through collaboration between the Mobile Training Unit (MTU) and the Regional Vocational Training Centre (PPKD). Head of Jakarta’s Department of Labour, Transmigration and Energy (Disnakertransgi), Syaripudin, said: ‘Those with skills will find it easier to secure employment or create jobs, ultimately reducing unemployment,’ in a WhatsApp message on Friday, 29 May 2026. Syaripudin explained that MTU differs from standard training as it brings instructors directly to communities, particularly in densely populated areas. Through a ‘pick-up’ concept, MTU allows residents to access training without significant transport costs or lengthy absences from daily activities. The programme is seen as helping job seekers, housewives, and low-income residents who struggle to access formal training centres. ‘The government can tailor skills training to local economic potential, such as culinary arts, sewing, graphic design, vehicle servicing, and digital skills,’ he added. From 2026, MTU trainees will also undergo competency tests to obtain certification. Current popular courses include air conditioning technicians, culinary arts, fashion sewing, and barista skills. However, Disnakertransgi is expanding digital industry-related training. ‘New MTU vocational courses aligned with the digital industry include junior content creators, basic digital marketing, video editing, and young graphic designers,’ Syaripudin said. Additionally, foreign language training is being developed, including English, Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin.
