Job seeker swindled

From Neraca

Beware of the fellow who duped me into giving him money for the promise of a job. He goes from one restaurant to another in the area of Tebet, South Jakarta, offering job openings to the unsuspecting.

An outwardly sympathetic fellow, he introduced himself as BK to me at a canteen one day and easily led me into a conversation in which I told him I had an unemployed son. He told me that he might be able to get my son a job at the company where he was employed. All I needed to do was to prepare the usual formal application letter and give him Rp 300,000 in cash to be used as a bribe to the person in charge of hiring.

On the appointed day, not long afterward, he took me to an office in the Gatot Subroto area. He told me to wait in front of the building while he went in to submit the application letter and the money "to the manager".

I waited for his return in vain. As time past, I became suspicious I asked the office security guard about him. The guard said no man named BK has ever been employed at that office.

Sure I had been duped, I immediately checked the home address he gave me, Jl. Sarmili RT 010/04 No.21 Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta. When I arrived there the house was empty.
