Job expo to offer 2,500 vacancies

JAKARTA: Over 2,500 vacancies from dozens of national and multinational companies will be offered during the ninth Job Expo on Jan. 27 and Jan. 28 at the Wisma Serbaguna in Senayan, Central Jakarta.

The expo, entitled Career 2004, is expected to host some 20,000 professionals with a variety of educational backgrounds.

"The vacancies offered will vary from entry level, with a monthly salary of Rp 1 million (US$117.65), to the executive level, where monthly salaries can exceed Rp 40 million, for professionals with a minimum of at least a high school diploma or one year of work experience," said chief organizer Donnie Iriawan, in a press release.

It will be supported by the international online career website JobsDB.com and the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration. The organizers said it would host more companies than the last one held in July.

Asia Expo held a similar two-day exhibition last July that brought together nearly 15,000 job-seekers at the Kartika Chandra hotel in South Jakarta. The number of job-seekers was much greater than the capacity of the venue, causing serious crowd- control issues that disrupted traffic along Jl. Jend. Gatot Subroto and verged on becoming unruly. -- JP
