Jlantah Dam to Bolster Food Security in Central Java
The Central Java provincial government has stated that the Jlantah Dam in Jatiyoso District, Karanganyar Regency, will strengthen food security. The dam was officially inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto on Friday (10/7).
Central Java Regional Secretary Sumarno explained that the dam will provide significant benefits for the agricultural sector, flood control, and the supply of raw water for the community, thereby reinforcing food security. With the irrigation flow from the dam, agricultural land in the area is expected to support three planting seasons per year, yielding an average of six tonnes of grain per hectare each season.
The Jlantah Dam is estimated to support a total production of around 27,000 tonnes of rice annually. “This will certainly increase rice production capacity and strengthen food security, particularly in Karanganyar Regency and its surrounding areas,” Sumarno said.
