Several social organisations (ormas) are reportedly planning to stage a rally in defence of Jusuf Kalla (JK), the 10th and 12th Vice President, at the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) office in South Sulawesi following a report against him for alleged religious defamation.

The family has urged the masses not to hold the rally to avoid disrupting public activities and to maintain harmony.

“We reiterate and call for sympathy and support not to take the form of protests that could disrupt order and peace. We must all work together to maintain harmony,” said Subhan Djaya Mappaturung, Chief Legal & Sustainability Officer of KALLA, representing JK’s family, in a statement on Friday (17/4).

Subhan stated that this mass movement must maintain order and not be easily pitted against certain parties who wish to exploit the current situation.

“We believe that the wider public is well aware of Mr Jusuf Kalla’s track record in government, including his role as the initiator of peace in the Ambon and Poso conflicts,” he revealed.

Subhan requested that the authorities anticipate so that actions in the name of Mr Jusuf Kalla are not carried out to maintain peace and stability in society.

“Once again, we reiterate that the public should not be provoked and should not join calls or invitations to protests linking to the defence or support of Mr Jusuf Kalla,” he concluded.

Previously, JK was reported by the General Chairman of the Indonesian Christian Youth Movement (GAMKI), Sahat Martin Philip Sinurat, to the Metro Jaya Police.

The report was filed by GAMKI and several other organisations regarding a speech delivered by JK at the Gadjah Mada University Mosque (UGM) on 5 March 2026.

Sahat is recorded as the General Chairman of GAMKI for the 2023-2026 term. He was elected at the XII GAMKI Congress held at the Maranatha Church in Ambon on Friday, 19 May 2023.

In January 2026, he was then appointed as Acting Head of the North Sumatra PSI Regional Leadership Council (DPW PSI) by the PSI Central Board.

PSI Daily Chairman Ahmad Ali has emphasised that his party is not involved in Sahat’s report against JK.

“PSI has no business with reports against Mr Jusuf Kalla,” said Ahmad Ali after meeting the 7th President, Joko Widodo, at his residence in Sumber, Solo, Central Java, on Thursday (16/4).

Ahmad Ali and JK are both officials of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI). JK serves as General Chairman, and Ahmad Ali as Chairman of the Central Sulawesi Regional Leadership.

He claimed he would try to mediate the ongoing dispute between Sahat and JK at the Metro Jaya Police.

“Sahat is my younger brother, Mr JK is my elder brother. Insyaallah, I will try my utmost to bring them together to mediate this so that this commotion can end,” he said.
