JKN Programme Becomes Lifeline for Herna Amid Dialysis Routine

Twice a week, Herna Sumiratna (41) walks into the haemodialysis unit at RSUD KHZ Mustafa in Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java. For the past three years, she has had to undergo routine dialysis after her hypertension developed into chronic kidney failure. Despite her struggle, Herna is grateful she does not have to worry about medical costs because she is registered as a recipient of the Penerima Bantuan Iuran Jaminan Kesehatan (PBI JK) scheme. A routine she never imagined has now become her fight to stay alive, fully supported by the National Health Insurance (JKN) programme, which guarantees her medical services. Herna recounted that it all started when her hypertension could not be controlled. One day, the housewife had to accept the reality that doctors had diagnosed her with chronic kidney failure due to declining kidney function. Since then, every Tuesday and Friday has become her regular schedule for therapy. The hum of the dialysis machines in the haemodialysis unit has made her accept that this therapy is now part of her life. ‘The service from the doctors and nurses here at RSUD KHZ Mustofa is very friendly; they always encourage us,’ Herna said. For Herna, the JKN programme is the main pillar supporting her treatment without having to think about healthcare costs. This gives her peace of mind and allows her to focus on undergoing routine haemodialysis. Herna believes the JKN programme protects not only her but also her family. She hopes the programme will endure so that more people can benefit from it. ‘Especially for chronic disease sufferers, I am sure they feel the same way I do. Thanks to JKN, our health protection is guaranteed and we do not need to worry about costs,’ said the woman from Singaparna. Herna also expressed her appreciation to BPJS Kesehatan and RSUD KHZ Mustofa for providing excellent service. She hopes the service she has experienced will be maintained so that the benefits of JKN for the community will continue to improve. ‘Keep what is good and improve what is lacking. Let us all become JKN participants so our health is protected and we do not have to worry about costs if we fall ill,’ she concluded.
