JKN Programme Aids Woman's Recovery from Lumbal Radiculopathy

Pain that started in her spine and radiated down her leg began to disrupt the daily activities of Jamih Jubaedah (50). Over time, the discomfort, initially felt only in her back and legs, spread to almost her entire body. Thanks to the National Health Insurance (JKN) programme, Jamih was able to undergo a series of examinations, treatments, and physiotherapy without being burdened by the costs. Jamih recounted that the complaints began in early February 2025. She initially thought the pain was merely due to fatigue and could be resolved with rest. However, her condition did not improve. The pain became more frequent and intense, eventually hindering her mobility and daily routine. “When the pain struck, I felt very uncomfortable and worried about my health condition,” Jamih said. Realising her condition was not improving, Jamih decided to seek treatment at a community health centre using her BPJS Kesehatan coverage. After an initial examination, the doctor referred her to a hospital for further treatment at the neurology clinic. The neurologist’s examination results showed that Jamih was diagnosed with lumbal radiculopathy, a nerve disorder in the lower spine that causes pain to radiate down the legs. She was also diagnosed with gonarthrosis, or calcification of the knee joint. To support her recovery, the doctor referred Jamih for regular physiotherapy and consultations with an orthopaedic specialist. “I followed all the treatment procedures. Starting from the community health centre, I was referred to the neurology clinic, then underwent physiotherapy and had check-ups with the orthopaedic doctor. Alhamdulillah, everything went well and all services were covered by BPJS Kesehatan,” she said. Jamih underwent regular physiotherapy for approximately one year. She found the therapy significantly beneficial in reducing her pain and helping her gradually regain her ability to move. Throughout her treatment, she also experienced friendly and comfortable service without ever being charged. “I truly feel the benefits of being a JKN participant. During the examinations, check-ups, and physiotherapy that lasted almost a year, I did not have to worry about medical costs. I could just focus on my therapy so that my health condition could improve,” she said.
