JKN Participants Can Still Access Healthcare Services Even Outside Their Domicile
Being far from home no longer causes Rizqi Aji Miharto (30) anxiety when requiring healthcare services. As a participant in the National Health Insurance (JKN) programme, he has experienced the ease of obtaining medical care even when outside his registered domicile.
For Rizqi, JKN membership provides a sense of security because he does not need to worry about costs when requiring medical services.
“I am very grateful to be a JKN participant. With this programme, I feel more at ease because I do not need to worry about healthcare costs when ill. What I feel most is the ease of accessing healthcare services anywhere,” Rizqi stated in a written statement on Thursday (1/10/2026).
Rizqi noted that many people still mistakenly believe that JKN participants can only receive treatment according to the domicile listed on their National Identity Card (KTP). In reality, as long as the membership status is active, participants can still access healthcare services in other regions in accordance with applicable regulations.
“The JKN programme implements the principle of portability. This means participants can still access healthcare services throughout Indonesia as long as their membership status is active. Therefore, one does not have to seek treatment strictly according as their KTP domicile,” he explained.
According to Rizqi, this convenience is highly beneficial for individuals with activities outside their home region, such as working, studying, or travelling.
“This information is very helpful, especially for those working, studying, or travelling out of the region. As long as the membership is active, participants can still access healthcare services even when in another place,” he said.
In addition to understanding the ease of access outside their domicile, Rizqi also noted that participants can change their First Level Health Facility (FKTP) if they move residence.
“If a participant has recently changed their FKTP but then has to move due to work, they do not need to wait three months to change their FKTP. One simply needs to attach a certificate from the workplace as proof of relocation,” said Rizqi.
He also reminded that participants in emergency conditions can directly obtain services at the nearest hospital without having to go through referral procedures.
“In emergency conditions, patient safety is the priority. Participants can go directly to the nearest hospital without needing a referral. Hospitals are also not permitted to refuse patients in emergency situations,” he added.
Rizqi’s understanding of various JKN services is also supported by the use of the Mobile JKN Application. He routinely uses the application to check his membership status and administrative needs.
“I always utilise the Mobile JKN Application to check my membership status and other administrative needs. This application is very helpful because many services can be accessed practically via mobile phone,” he said.
For Rizqi, the JKN Programme is a form of health protection that provides great benefits to the community. He hopes the programme continues to run and that more people understand the available benefits.
“I hope the JKN Programme can continue and improve in the future. The benefits are immense for the public as it serves as a health protection umbrella accessible to all participants. I hope more people can experience the benefits as I have,” Rizqi concluded.
