Fira, a resident of Purwokerto Village, Tayu District, Pati Regency, Central Java, no longer worries about medical expenses now that her father has become a participant in the National Health Insurance (JKN) programme, following his registration by the Pati Regency Government.

Speaking from a class 3 ward at Sebening Kasih Hospital in Tayu while accompanying her father, Sukahar (57), Fira admitted that the JKN programme, facilitated by the local government, has provided her family with peace of mind. Given her father’s medical condition requires intensive handling, the family is no longer haunted by the fear of high medical costs.

“Before becoming a JKN participant, our greatest concern was the cost of treatment. Healthcare and hospital services are not cheap. After my father was registered as a JKN participant by the Pati Regency Government, we felt much calmer because we are no longer burdened by medical expenses when needing healthcare services,” she said.

She noted that the benefits of the JKN programme extend beyond financing to the ease of accessing necessary healthcare. During his treatment, her father has received excellent medical care from doctors and healthcare professionals.

“My father has been undergoing treatment in the hospital for three days, and we have experienced very good service. The doctors and healthcare staff are very responsive, while the medicines and services provided are entirely covered without any additional costs for us to pay,” Fuala stated.

This experience has strengthened her belief that the JKN programme plays a vital role in providing health protection, especially for economically disadvantaged groups. Many people often delay seeking medical treatment due to fears of high costs; the JKN programme serves as a tangible solution to ensure access to healthcare without financial hardship.

“As members of the lower-income community, we are very grateful for the JKN membership assistance provided by the Pati Regency Government. We hope this programme continues and that memberships for those in need remain active, as not everyone has the ability to pay for medical costs which can be very large,” she expressed.

Fira added that the health protection provided through JKN does not only assist during illness but also provides peace of mind for the entire family. When health risks arise suddenly, citizens no longer have to face the difficult choice between seeking treatment and considering the family’s economic capacity. For her, the existence of JKN represents the state’s presence in ensuring that the public receives their right to proper healthcare services.

“Thank you to the Pati Regency Government and BPJS Kesehatan for the health protection provided to the community. May the JKN Programme continue to benefit many people,” she concluded.

The story of Fira and her family serves as a real illustration of how the JKN Programme provides health protection. Amidst rising healthcare needs and the significant costs of medical treatment that might otherwise be borne personally, the JKN Programme acts as a vital support system, helping the public access healthcare more easily, safely, and affordably.
