Jakarta – Jusuf Kalla (JK), the tenth and twelfth Vice President of Indonesia, says the country should adopt a firm stance on the Middle East conflict, particularly the confrontation between the United States–Israel and Iran. Kalla argued that Indonesia must demonstrate its support for the country that is being attacked. He said the stance is important to ensure Indonesia remains consistent in promoting cooperation with nations in Asia and the Muslim world. ‘As a country that is attacked and oppressed, Indonesia must have a position. Logically, we should side with the country that is attacked,’ JK said in a statement on Saturday, 7 March 2026. He added that Indonesia’s standing as the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation is expected to carry a clear position in responding to conflicts involving Muslim countries. Moreover, Indonesia should not remain neutral without showing its partiality. The issue should be discussed and solutions sought for in international forums such as the Board of Peace. ‘If this cannot be resolved through the peace forum, what is the point of us being part of it? That means Indonesia should voice a firm stance,’ he said.
