Jusuf Kalla, the 10th and 12th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, urged the government to anticipate limited stock of fuel following the escalation of the conflict between the United States and Iran. He conveyed this to reporters after breaking fast and performing tarawih prayers with the Korps Alumni Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam (KAHMI) at his residence in South Jakarta on Friday, 6 March 2026. ‘If the war lasts for a prolonged period, our fuel stocks will be limited. That could cause difficulties for economic and business activities,’ Kalla said in an official statement on Saturday, 7 March 2026. ‘The impact on Indonesia will be felt directly in the economy. Fuel prices rise, LPG prices rise, and that means government subsidies will be higher,’ he added. In addition, Kalla urged Indonesia to take a clear political stance on the conflict, which followed the US attack on Iran. He said the government could leverage Indonesia’s role in international forums to push for a resolution and peace. Kalla also emphasised the importance of a comprehensive evaluation of the national economic policy, especially concerning budget management amid global uncertainty. ‘There must be a total evaluation of economic policy, particularly in how the budget is used. The state must set priorities so that expenditures do not become too large,’ he said.
