JK: Ryamizard made significant contributions to national defence and security

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) of Indonesia’s 10th and 12th terms assessed that retired Defence Minister General TNI Ryamizard Ryacudu was a military figure who made significant contributions to national security and defence during his service in the military and government. JK expressed condolences over the death of Ryamizard Ryacudu, who passed away on Sunday. ‘He was a prominent figure and general who made substantial contributions to national security and dedicated service as a military member,’ said Jusuf Kalla in a statement on Sunday in Jakarta. He added that Ryamizard’s passing is a significant loss for the nation due to his role and dedication in safeguarding national interests. Kalla also mentioned the deceased’s family background, which has a long tradition of military service. ‘This is a great loss for all of us following the passing of General Ryamizard Ryacudu,’ he said. Ryamizard Ryacudu was known as a senior Indonesian Army officer who served as Army Chief of Staff from 2002 to 2005. After retiring, he was appointed Defence Minister from 2014 to 2019. Throughout his career, Ryamizard was active in various efforts to strengthen national defence and build defence institution capacity amid evolving strategic environments. Jusuf Kalla also prayed that the late general would be granted a place of honour by Allah SWT and that his family would be given strength and resilience in their grief. ‘Once again, we extend our deepest condolences. May Allah SWT grant him a fitting place,’ Kalla said.
