Jakarta – Vice President (10th and 12th term) Jusuf Kalla (JK) has disclosed that President Prabowo Subianto has stated that Indonesia will withdraw from the Board of Peace (BoP), established by US President Donald Trump, should it deviate from its objectives.

Accordingly, JK has affirmed that the government will stand by Prabowo’s statement. He made this announcement following a meeting with former ambassadors at his private residence on Jl Brawijaya, South Jakarta, on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026.

“As we know, the President has already stated, ‘if it is not consistent with its objectives, Indonesia is willing to withdraw’. We shall simply hold to that,” JK said during a press conference Thursday evening.

However, he cautioned against Trump’s typical decision-making approach. “From America’s perspective, you certainly know how Trump makes decisions, don’t you? Although he threatens those who withdraw with higher tariffs. Don’t forget, America’s Supreme Court has already ruled it cannot exceed 15 per cent,” he explained.

“So although people withdraw there is nothing to it, naturally relations with America would certainly not be an issue for us, but certainly for our government leadership we must consider that,” JK added.

Therefore, if aligned with its objectives, JK is confident that BoP has good intentions. “Although, as I said, if there is good intention, as long as it thinks Peace and not War, not Board of War but Board of Peace,” he further stated.

President Prabowo Subianto is reported to have opened the option of withdrawing from the Council for Peace, or Board of Peace, initiated by US President Donald Trump, if it does not align with the Republic of Indonesia.

“If it is indeed not consistent with what we desire – first, the peaceful situation in Gaza presently in particular. Then the peaceful situation in Palestine generally and ultimately the independence and sovereignty of Palestine,” said Foreign Minister Sugiono at the Palace complex.

“I believe that is the trajectory we wish to achieve, which we see, I believe the corridors are there,” he added.

Besides the Foreign Minister, Secretary General of the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI) Cholil Nafis also revealed the same after meeting with President Prabowo at the Palace. As a representative of an Islamic organisation, Cholil disclosed that President Prabowo affirmed he would abstain and be absent if the Board of Peace does not align with Indonesia’s stance.

Without hesitation, Prabowo is reported to be ready to withdraw from the Board of Peace if it is incompatible and misaligned with the body established by Trump.

“The President said, when that policy then there are steps that are not aligned, we will abstain and be absent. Abstain and be absent. Then when it is indeed not suitable and we cannot do anything, he is ready to withdraw from the BoP,” said Cholil.
