JK, Mahfud MD, and Anies Pray Eid Together at Al Azhar Mosque, Taking the Front Row

Jakarta - Former 10th and 12th Vice President of Indonesia Jusuf Kalla (JK), former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, and former Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan performed Eid prayers at the Al Azhar Grand Mosque, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Saturday (21/3/2026). Kompas.com observations at the location around 06:20 WIB showed JK arriving together with Mahfud MD. They directed arriving worshippers to promptly take their places for prayer. The rows provided for men were in the mosque’s field area near Jalan Sisingamangaraja. Meanwhile, rows for women were at the back and occupied the sides of the roads around the mosque. Several vendors were seen offering newspapers or mats to arriving worshippers for use as prayer mats. Male worshippers already in the field first spread out mats or newspapers before laying down their prayer rugs. Announcements from the head of the Al Azhar Grand Mosque Office, Tatang Komara, were heard from the pulpit to arriving worshippers. “We welcome all worshippers and invite you to occupy the front rows first. Do not form rows at the back before the front rows are filled,” he urged the congregation. Tatang also explained that the Eid prayer was planned to be held around 07:00 WIB.
